Cathedral Views

Most works in this series were painted over the course of 2020, following the announcement of the COVID-19 virus and subsequent pandemic. Like many others, the visual world surrounding Kevin’s home became even more important than before the pandemic, evidenced by his efforts to capture the Covington Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption at moments in time throughout this luminous and thought-provoking series. Viewers will note that the Cathedral’s exterior is largely modelled from the Cathedral Notre Dame de Paris, named as the source of Kevin’s inspiration to purchase and rehabilitate his Covington Italianate home beginning in 1993. While the great church’s façade is permanent in nature, the combined effects from the changing lighting, clouds, weather patterns and surrounding nature cause the living church to reveal itself with many different perspectives, often within a single day.  Each artwork in this series seeks to ask the viewer to examine what particular truths, mysteries and forces of light and darkness may be waiting to be discovered.
